The health of the oppositionist, who is on hunger strike in prison, is deteriorating

The health of Zamin Salayev, an activist of the Popular Front Party held in the Baku pre-trial detention center, continues to deteriorate, said lawyer Neymat Kerimli, who visited him on March 6. The health of the oppositionist, who continues his hunger strike on the 28th day, has worsened. “Alizamin Salayev is in a difficult situation. He has lost 20 kg, it is difficult for him to move, there were severe heart pains. Nevertheless, they do not provide him with medical care, do not transfer the medical unit and ignore requests to call a doctor,” the lawyer said. The defender also said that he had conveyed to Salayev the request of the PNFA leader Ali Kerimli to stop the hunger strike. “But Zamin said he would continue his hunger strike until the end, until his just demand for release is satisfied,” the lawyer said. He also pointed to the unlawful restriction of Salayev’s right to meet with loved ones. “The management of the pre-trial detention center illegally restricted Salayev’s rights to meet with relatives. In this regard, I will appeal to the prosecutor’s office and the Ombudsman,” the lawyer said. The Prison Service could not be reached for comment. *On February 8, the Garadagh District Court of Baku arrested Zamin Salayev for three months. A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism – the use of force against the victim with the use of weapons or objects used as weapons). He faces up to 5 years in prison. Zamin Salayev stated in court that he did not attack anyone, on the contrary, he was attacked himself. “When I got out of a taxi in the Lokbatan district of Baku, an unknown person insulted me and rushed at me with a knife. I tried to defend myself and run away from the scene, pushing the attacker away. Immediately after that, I was stopped by plainclothes police officers and taken to the Garadagh district police department, accompanied by 4 police cars,” Salayev told the judges of the Baku Court of Appeal on February 20. However, the court did not satisfy his complaint and kept him under arrest
