Baku: The Shah Deniz gas-condensate field, located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, plays a strategic role in bolstering the natural gas security of both Trkiye and Europe, according to Cem Erdem, the Director General of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). Erdem made these remarks during his address at the 5th Azerbaijan-Trkiye Energy Forum.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the energy sector remains a pivotal area of strategic cooperation between Trkiye and Azerbaijan. TPAO has been a key participant in this cooperation since 1994, when the company embarked on its activities in Azerbaijan with the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli project. Cem Erdem reminded that TPAO is actively involved as a partner in oil production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli project and in natural gas and condensate production at Shah Deniz. Additionally, the company plays a role in transporting Azerbaijani oil to Trkiye and international markets through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main export pipeline.
Erdem emphasized the significance of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli project as a cornerstone of Trkiye-Azerbaijan energy cooperation. He further highlighted Shah Deniz's contribution to the natural gas security of Trkiye and Europe. TPAO is committed to expanding its activities in Azerbaijan beyond existing projects. The corporation aims to boost its investments and collaborate with SOCAR on future ventures, such as the Shafag-Asiman project anticipated in 2025.
The TPAO Director General concluded by noting that current global and regional developments underscore the importance of fostering long-term and reliable partnerships in the energy sector.
