Baku: Transit cargo doubles, air passengers hit 7.5 million in 2024, as public transport program advances: The state-owned enterprises in Azerbaijan’s transportation and ICT sectors have undergone significant changes over the past four years, resulting in improved service quality and management efficiency, according to Shahin Babayev, the executive director of Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON), in an interview with APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, transit cargo turnover in the region has more than doubled during this period. The air travel sector also witnessed record growth, with the number of passengers transported by air reaching 7.5 million in 2024. A State Program aimed at developing public transportation has been adopted, with ongoing measures being implemented.
In the realm of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the Online Azerbaijan project has equipped the country with fiber-optic internet, leading to a significant increase in the average speed of fixed broadband internet, which has grown more than sixfold to reach 73.6 Mbit/s. Additionally, digitalization efforts have been implemented across the public sector, with several strategic documents and concepts approved to support this transformation.
