ISTANBUL: Trkiye aims to bolster its collaboration with Germany in defense industry procurements, as articulated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, highlighting the desire to overcome past hurdles in defense product supply and strengthen bilateral ties.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Erdogan emphasized the importance of resolving previous issues related to the supply of defense industry products between the two nations. During his remarks, Erdogan underscored the shared commitment of Ankara and Berlin to combat terrorist organizations, specifically naming the PKK and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), which have been a threat to public safety in both Trkiye and Germany. FETO is notably recognized as the orchestrator of the failed coup attempt in Trkiye in 2016.

The discussions between Erdogan and Scholz point to a mutual interest in enhancing security cooperation and addre
ssing mutual concerns regarding terrorism. The potential for improved defense procurement ties represents a significant step forward in diplomatic relations between Trkiye and Germany.
