Reflecting on his personal experience, Turan recalled being a university student in Ankara at the time of the incident, sharing how deeply the events in Baku resonated across Turkey, evoking a sense of unity and devastation as if they had occurred in Turkish cities like Ankara, Istanbul, Kars, and Trabzon.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Ambassador Turan emphasized the lasting impact of the tragedy on Azerbaijan's path to independence. He noted that the memory of those who lost their lives on January 20 remains deeply ingrained in the hearts of many. Turan remarked that the sacrifices made by the "heroic brothers" were not in vain, as Azerbaijan soon achieved independence and demonstrated its value on the global stage. He further added that Azerbaijan has successfully liberated its territories from occupation and embarked on a new chapter in its history.
