Turkish American Tycoon Sadettin Saran Elected Fenerbahce President

Istanbul: Turkish-American businessman Steven Sadettin Saran was elected president of Fenerbahce Sports Club on Sunday, marking the end of fellow industry mogul Ali Koc’s seven-year tenure. Koc faced increasing criticism over the years due to the team’s lack of titles, leading to mounting pressure for leadership change.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Saran’s election comes in response to fans’ demand for a new direction, as Fenerbahce has not claimed the Turkish Super Lig title since 2014. The criticism reached its peak following the dismissal of the highly-regarded Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho. Mourinho’s removal came after Fenerbahce’s elimination by Benfica in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, further intensifying the call for a strategic shift within the club.
