Turkish Journalist Criticizes Mahmoud Abbas’ Visit to Greek Cyprus on Trkiye’s Republic Day

Ankara:Turkish journalist and writer Yilmaz Özdil expressed concerns on his YouTube channel regarding the potential impact of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' visit to Greek Cyprus on Turkish-Azerbaijani relations.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Özdil highlighted that the visit took place on October 29, coinciding with Trkiye's Republic Day, and questioned whether this move might upset Azerbaijan. He noted that Azerbaijan is the only country with strong affection for Trkiye, describing the relationship as "one nation, two states." However, he warned that the relations between Trkiye and Azerbaijan could be deteriorating.

Özdil pointed out that the recent tensions are not solely linked to Azerbaijan's introduction of a unified school uniform. He elaborated that Azerbaijan's military cooperation agreement with Israel and the simultaneous opening of a business forum in Yerevan, Armenia, attended by Armenia and Iran, are significant developments. He emphasized that these alliances are formed based on strategic interests rather than religious affiliations, contrasting with Trkiye's focus on issues like Palestine and the hijab.

He further criticized the timing of Mahmoud Abbas' visit to Greek Cyprus, suggesting it was a deliberate choice that disregarded Northern Cyprus and aligned with Greek Cyprus, questioning if this stance would provoke Azerbaijan.
