Turkmenistan and Chinese CNPC explore gas sector collaboration


ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan is discussing the development of bilateral cooperation in the gas sector with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Trend reports.

According to the official source, this topic was discussed during the meeting of the Advisor to the President of Turkmenistan on oil and gas issues, Ashirgulu Begliyev with the General Director of the local branch of the CNPC Chen Huailong and the Chinese Ambassador to Ashgabat Qian Naicheng.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the deepening of bilateral cooperation in the gas sector, the implementation of existing gas agreements, as well as prospects for cooperation, including the project of the second stage of the Galkynysh field.

At the same time, they noted the productivity of working with CNPC and other leading companies in the energy sector in the favorable conditions created in Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen side stressed the priority importance of the oil and gas complex for the socio-economic development of the country, noting that u
nder the leadership of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, a comprehensive strategy for innovative development of the fuel and energy industry is being implemented with an emphasis on ecology, modernization and diversification of export routes.

Meanwhile, the Turkmengaz State Concern estimates the nation’s hydrocarbon resources at over 71 billion tons of oil equivalent.

This volume includes more than 20 billion tons of oil and more than 50 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.
