ASHGABAT: Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan has seen a significant increase, reaching $805.4 million from January through August 2024. This marks a substantial growth of 55.78 percent compared to the same period in 2023, when the trade turnover was recorded at $517 million.
According to Trend News Agency, the detailed data from the Uzbek Statistics Agency highlighted that Turkmenistan now ranks sixth among Uzbekistan’s largest trading partners for the year. The breakdown of trade activities shows a mixed trend in terms of imports and exports. Turkmenistan’s imports from Uzbekistan saw a decrease, totaling $78.3 million, which is 33.9 percent less compared to the same period last year, when it was $118.4 million. On the other hand, Turkmenistan’s exports to Uzbekistan experienced a significant boost, amounting to $727.1 million, up 82.41 percent from $398.6 million in January-August 2023.
The overall foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan exceeded $9 billion in the first half of 2024, with a
trade surplus reaching $2.9 billion, indicating robust economic activity and a favorable trade balance.
