U.S. and Azerbaijan Discuss Peace Agreement and Bilateral Relations


Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Michael Carpenter, Special Assistant to the U.S. President and Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council, where discussions focused on the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and other bilateral issues.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Michael Carpenter presented a letter from U.S. President Joseph Biden to the Azerbaijani head of state during the meeting. Carpenter expressed the United States’ support for the swift signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing the historic opportunity presented by the current circumstances. He highlighted that the U.S. is committed to advancing this process and believes that the agreement would create broad opportunities for regional cooperation.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan initiated the peace agreement and its five core principles, expressing concern over Armenia’s delay in sending its latest proposals on the peace agreement’s t
ext after 70 days. He emphasized that Armenia’s constitutional territorial claims against Azerbaijan remain a significant hurdle in finalizing the agreement. President Aliyev assured that Azerbaijan is determined to continue taking decisive steps to advance the peace process.

The meeting also allowed for an exchange of views on various issues related to the bilateral agenda between Azerbaijan and the United States, underlining the multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.
