Washington: U.S. Secretary of State and members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee are advocating for the removal of the Jackson-Vanik trade restrictions, which are seen as a significant obstacle in the relations between the United States and Central Asian countries.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, U.S. Senator Steve Daines, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, highlighted the ongoing issue during a recent committee meeting. He identified the Jackson-Vanik trade restrictions as a major hurdle in strengthening ties between the U.S. and the Central Asian countries, particularly impacting relations with Azerbaijan. Daines stressed that the removal of these restrictions could have a significant impact on U.S. relations with Central Asia.

Senator Marco Rubio echoed these sentiments, stating, "It's a detriment. We'd like to see it removed." Rubio suggested that the issue should be discussed further with the committee's chairman and ranking member to consider placing it on the agenda.
