U.S. President Encourages Azerbaijani Counterpart to Finalize Peace Agreement with Armenia


Washington: President Joseph Biden of the United States has officially communicated with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, encouraging the finalization of a peace agreement with Armenia that aims to end longstanding conflicts and promote regional stability and prosperity.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Biden’s letter highlights the progress Azerbaijan and Armenia have made towards a peace agreement and emphasizes the U.S. support for a durable and dignified resolution. The U.S. President expressed optimism about the positive transformations that a peace agreement would bring, not only ensuring Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity but also enhancing trade, investment, and connectivity between Europe and Central Asia.

In his letter, Biden pointed out the strategic timing as the world’s attention turns to Baku for the COP29 conference, presenting a unique platform for Azerbaijan to showcase its commitment to peace. He stressed the necessity of creativity and compromise from all
involved parties to finalize the remaining articles of the peace agreement. Biden expressed confidence in President Aliyev’s leadership in this critical period and encouraged him to seize this opportunity to establish a new regional trajectory based on shared prosperity.

Moreover, President Biden has committed to taking bold initiatives to support the peace process and has instructed Michael Carpenter, Senior Director for Europe, to discuss potential steps with President Aliyev and gather feedback on the ongoing discussions with Armenia.
