Umayra Tagiyeva: Dry and hot weather conditions increase the likelihood of wildfires

“Against the background of long-lasting high-temperature conditions, the predominance of dry weather raises the wildfire threat,” said Umayra Taghiyeva, Head of the Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, APA reports.

According to her, the high number of people wanting to spend their vacations and short-term rest in the forested areas, the irresponsibility of some people further increase the fire threat: “Of course, when it is raining, when the soil is wet, the possibility of fire hazard decreases. However, recent dry and hot weather condition increases the likelihood of wildfires. Against the background of fire-hazardous meteorological conditions, even careless burning of dry grass, unextinguished matches, and cigarettes can cause a fire disaster. Leaving fireplaces and barbecues by vacationers is also a source of danger. Forests are the people’s wealth. At the same time, they are a unique ecosystem. Lets all of us be responsible and protect our forests.”
