Baku: The first session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for 2026 was held on April 21-22, the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operating Company told APA: The session focused on the upcoming Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which Azerbaijan is set to host in one month.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, preparations for WUF13 were a central topic of discussion, with detailed information provided on the collaborative efforts between the Government of Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat. The main theme of the forum, 'Housing for all: safe and sustainable cities and human settlements,' was a focal point in the discussions among member states, highlighting its importance in the global agenda on sustainable urban development. The significance of WUF13, to be held in Baku in May, was underscored as a strategic milestone for addressing urban development challenges.
The session also acknowledged the 2nd African Urban Forum (AUF2), which took place in Nairobi from April 8-10. During AUF2, member states were briefed on the progress and plans for WUF13 and other significant global events scheduled for the year. Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and national coordinator of WUF13, led a delegation that actively participated in AUF2, reinforcing the connection between the two forums and their shared objectives.
