Baku:The number of armed conflicts worldwide has reached an unprecedented high, according to UN Programme Director Azza Karam. Speaking at the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, Karam highlighted the increasing burden these conflicts are placing on women and girls.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Karam addressed the plenary session titled "Knowledge, Voice and Leadership Empowering Women and Girls Across Cultures for a Shared Future." She emphasized that the escalating conflicts are contributing to a rise in internally displaced persons and exacerbating the challenges faced by women and girls, particularly in terms of caregiving responsibilities.
Karam called for more effective coordination of policy and legislative mechanisms to empower women and girls. She stressed the need for enhanced cooperation between government institutions and their partners to address the growing challenges resulting from these conflicts.
