“I was very glad about the news on the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders,” said US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger, APA reports.

“We-the USA, since the beginning of the conflict last year, tried a lot for the opportunity to happen for the direct contact of the sides. This may yield good results. If we look at the past, we will see that direct contact of the sides, especially leaders’ contact, yielded significant results. I do not know how the results of this meeting will be, but I hope that it is a significant step in the field of establishment of the confidence and normalization of the relations towards development,” the ambassador noted.

He stressed that they always supported the establishment of direct contact between the Defence Ministries of the sides: “It is very important to avoid incidents and losses. We welcome the consent on the establishment of direct contact between the Defence Ministries. Not only establishing contacts is important, but also using its opportunities is crucial. We look forward to the sides to benefit from this opportunity.”
