Over the next one and a half years, the US Marshall Heritage Institute will donate an additional 30 mine detection dogs to the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) to assist in mine clearance, reported the US Embassy in Azerbaijan. Earlier, the US Marshall Heritage Institute donated 40 mine-detecting dogs to Azerbaijan.
“The dogs have been involved in mine and explosive ordnance and mine clearance operations over an area of over 30 million square meters,” the US Embassy said.
The United States also announced in early November that it would provide $ 500,000 for humanitarian demining operations in the South Caucasus as a result of intense fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the fall of 2020.
In general, the United States is the world’s largest donor in the elimination of conventional weapons. Since 1993, the United States has provided over $ 4 billion to over 100 countries to help promote international peace and security. These funds were used to eliminate the threat posed to civilians by mines and unexploded ordnance.
