Uzbekistan Coal Production Sees Significant Increase in 2024


UZBEKISTAN – Uzbekistan reported a substantial growth in its coal production:Uzbekistan reported a substantial growth in its coal production, achieving a total of 4.3 million tons from January through August 2024, marking a 16.2 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

According to Trend News Agency, data from the country’s statistic agency highlighted that the coal production in August 2024 alone reached 900,000 tons, up from 800,000 tons in July. This increase is part of a broader strategy by Uzbekistan to boost its energy sector. In support of this initiative, the country has implemented policies to allow fuel, oil, and coal to pass through customs duty-free for two years. Additionally, the government is offering three-year revolving credits to facilitate coal imports.

These measures are aligned with Uzbekistan’s ambitious goal to significantly enhance coal production in the coming years. With contributions from businesses adding an extra 900,000 tons, the nation aims to produce a total of e
ight million tons of coal by the end of this year. Furthermore, the target is set to reach 10 million tons by 2025, as part of a strategic move to bolster domestic energy resources and reduce dependency on external energy supplies.
