Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s 140th Anniversary Celebrated in Vienna

Vienna: On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of Azerbaijani musical culture and a great composer, as well as National Music Day, a concert program was held at the monument of the prominent composer in Vienna. The program was co-organized by Azerbaijani Embassy in Austria and the Azerbaijani Cultural Centre in Vienna.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event was attended by Austrian state officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Vienna and international organizations, and Azerbaijani compatriots living in this country. Addressing the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Austria Rovshan Sadigbeyli highlighted Uzeyir Hajibeyli's transformative role in Azerbaijan's national musical culture, as well as his multifaceted public activities.

The ambassador hailed the participation of the Director General / Executive Director of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) / United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Waly at the event. Ghada Waly expressed her great interest in the event and beloved 'Leyli and Majnun', the first operetta in the Muslim East.

The speeches then continued with a concert program featuring works by composers such as Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Muslim Magomayev, and Handel/Halvorsen.
