Zangilan: Large-scale reforms have been carried out in the agricultural sector under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, state programs on the development of various areas of agriculture have been adopted, and state support for the sector has been significantly increased, Vahid Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President in the Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts, said while speaking at a regional meeting in Zangilan. The meeting was dedicated to the discussion of the 'State Program on the Development of Production and Processing Sectors of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026-2030', approved by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 25, 2026, in the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur economic region.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hajiyev pointed out that the implemented measures have led to an increase in production and export potential in traditional sectors such as cotton growing, tobacco growing, viticulture, and winemaking. Additionally, the level of self-sufficiency in several agricultural products has improved. Important steps have been taken to expand irrigation systems, construct new reservoirs, renew the agricultural machinery fleet, and return unused lands to crop rotation.
Hajiyev noted that despite the development efforts in the agricultural sector, there has been a certain stagnation in recent years. Consequently, a new and comprehensive State Program on the development of agriculture has been prepared based on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.
It was stated that the main objective of the State Program covering 2026-2030 is to ensure sustainable development in agriculture, strengthen food security, increase productivity and export orientation, develop value chains in the agricultural sector, expand farmers' access to modern agricultural services, as well as accelerate the development of fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
