Riyadh: “Thank God, we have won our first medals,” said the Vice President of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation, Firdovsi Umudov, in his statement to the employee of the Apasport.az website, who was dispatched to the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. He stated that they dedicate this achievement to the people of Azerbaijan.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Umudov expressed his congratulations to all the fans and citizens of Azerbaijan, highlighting the significance of Nuray’s achievement. Nuray, who will turn 15 in December, won three bronze medals in the 48 kg weight category. Umudov emphasized that this victory is not only a great success for the young athlete but also a proud moment for the federation. The timing of the victory, coinciding with Azerbaijan’s Victory Day, added to the emotional impact of the achievement.

Umudov further dedicated the medals to the Azerbaijani nation and particularly to the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Ilham Aliyev. He expressed hope for continued success, noting that other potential medal-winning weightlifters from Azerbaijan would compete soon. He attributed this success to the collaborative efforts of the Azerbaijani state, the National Olympic Committee, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
