Baku: Victim Ilham Mammadov testified at the Baku Military Court hearing on October 2, identifying Levon Mnatsakanyan as the officer who assaulted him during his captivity by Armenian forces, Trend reports. Mammadov recounted being taken hostage on May 10, 2002, while unarmed and serving in the military. He described the brutal treatment he endured, including being struck on the head with a fist and the butt of a rifle by Mnatsakanyan, whom he later identified by name.

According to Trend News Agency, Mammadov testified that Mnatsakanyan forced him into a dangerous position where Azerbaijani soldiers might unknowingly shoot him and compelled him to walk through a minefield. Mammadov was initially detained in Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenian forces before being transferred to Armenia, where he remained in captivity for over six months.

During cross-examination by the defense, Mammadov clarified that he did not know Mnatsakanyan prior to his capture and was unaware of his exact position at the time. However, he inferred from Mnatsakanyan’s authority that he might have been the chief of staff. In response to Mnatsakanyan’s questions, Mammadov revealed his background as a senior lieutenant and a graduate of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute with officer rank.

The court proceedings continue against Armenian nationals, facing charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and other serious offenses, including terrorism financing and violations of war laws.
