Hanoi: Vietnam Airlines has announced the establishment of a direct air route between Hanoi and Amsterdam, set to commence on June 16, 2026. This initiative is accompanied by market promotion activities and business connectivity programs with top European travel partners to introduce the new service and promote Vietnam as a travel destination.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Hanoi-Amsterdam route will operate with a frequency of three return flights per week, utilizing Airbus A350 aircraft. This marks the first direct air connection between Vietnam and the Netherlands, aiming to reduce travel time and enhance connectivity with one of Europe's key economic and transit hubs.
The flight schedule is tailored to offer convenient travel options for passengers traveling from Europe to Vietnam. It also facilitates connections to Vietnam Airlines' extensive domestic and regional network, including cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc, along with other destinations in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and Australia.
With the new Hanoi-Amsterdam service, Vietnam Airlines will expand its direct routes between Vietnam and Europe to a total of 12, covering eight destinations including Paris, Frankfurt, London, Munich, Milan, Copenhagen, Moscow, and Amsterdam.
Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, emphasized Europe as a key international market for the airline. He stated that the launch and sales campaign for the Hanoi-Amsterdam route in the Netherlands underscores the airline's commitment to strengthening cooperation with regional travel agencies and partners. He expressed confidence that the new route would enhance connectivity between Europe and Vietnam, boosting tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges.
Through expanding its flight network and intensifying market promotion efforts in Europe, Vietnam Airlines reinforces its role as the national flag carrier in linking Vietnam with major global economic centers. This initiative is expected to support trade, tourism, and international promotion of Vietnam and its culture.
Market data indicates that two-way passenger traffic between Vietnam and the Netherlands exceeded 122,000 in 2024 and continued to grow in 2025, with the Hanoi-Amsterdam route alone experiencing a year-on-year increase of over 40%. In light of rising travel demand between Europe and Southeast Asia, this new route is anticipated to efficiently shorten travel time, reduce transit stops, and enhance passenger experience.
