Volcanic Eruption Activity in Azerbaijan’s Garadagh Comes to a Halt, Reports Ministry

Baku: Volcanic activity at the Otman Bozdag Mud Volcano, part of the mud volcanoes in the Baku and Absheron State Nature Reserve, has ceased, according to a statement from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) to APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the eruption occurred on October 11 at 08:27, featuring strong flames. Preliminary estimates indicate that the area affected by the breccia, which surfaced during the eruption, spans approximately 4 hectares. The breccia has an average thickness of 1.5 meters and a total volume of around 60,000 cubic meters.

The eruption site displays concentric cracks. Experts from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, along with the Institute of Geology and Geophysics under the Ministry of Science and Education, are conducting joint monitoring of the area.

The last recorded eruption of the Otman Bozdag Mud Volcano, recognized as one of the active mud volcanoes, took place on September 23, 2018.
