Baku: During the years of World War II, nearly 50,000 kW of new electric power capacity was commissioned in Azerbaijan to ensure the reliable production of oil products, APA-Economics reports citing Russian media.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the production of oil products in Baku required very large energy resources. From the start of the war, intensive construction of power plants was carried out in the republic. In 1941, the Sumgayit-1 Thermal Power Plant was established, featuring a 24,000 kW capacity condensing turbine and a 25,000 kW capacity heating turbine that were put into operation.

During the war years, the “Red Star” – “Zykh” and “Zykh-Gala” 110 kV power lines were built and commissioned, significantly improving the reliability of power supply to the main oil trusts of Absheron. This development established dual power supply to the main transformer stations of the Azenergo power grid.

Furthermore, the new “Zykh” 110 kV substation was commissioned, and the entire Azizbeyov power network area, including Artyom Island (now Pirallahi), was converted to 35 kV voltage.
