Brussels: The level of filling of underground gas storage facilities in the European Union countries has dropped to 50%, APA-Economics reports, citing the European Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the level of filling of underground gas storage facilities in the EU countries is approximately 50.36%. This marks a significant decrease from the corresponding period last year when the level stood at 61.7%, amounting to a reduction of 14.84 percentage points compared to the average indicator of the last five years.

It was reported that the current total volume of gas in the storage facilities of the EU countries is 55.7 billion cubic meters. During the heating season, starting from October 13 last year, European countries have extracted approximately 40.5 billion cubic meters of gas from these storage facilities.

The transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) began on December 31, 2020.
