Wind Power Generation in Azerbaijan Soars with 27-Fold Increase

Accra:Wind power plants in Azerbaijan have dramatically increased their electricity generation, with a 27.2-fold rise during the first nine months of this year. This substantial growth in wind energy comes amid an overall decline in the country's total electricity production.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Azerbaijan generated 20,029.6 million kWh of electricity from January to September, marking a 2.3% decrease compared to the same period last year. Out of this total, 19,452.5 million kWh were from commercial production, which saw a 1.8% drop.

The majority of Azerbaijan's electricity, 15,170.3 million kWh, was produced by thermal power plants, reflecting a 9.5% decrease from earlier figures. In contrast, hydroelectric power and other renewable sources contributed to the remaining electricity generation.

Specifically, wind power plants produced 841.3 million kWh, showcasing their significant year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, solar power plants generated 533.2 million kWh, marking a 10.1% rise, and electricity from biomass and waste incineration plants reached 168.2 million kWh, which is a 5.8% increase.
