WUF13 Festival Showcases Urban Planning in Sheki

Sheki: The Sheki branch of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted an information session on May 5 as part of the ongoing thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13). The event aimed to bring together teachers and students to enhance public awareness of the forum.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the session featured prominent speakers, including Vurghun Mammadov, Director of the ASPU Sheki branch; Sadig Yusifov, Head of the Socio-Political and Humanitarian Affairs Sector of the Sheki City Executive Authority; Ramiz Idrisoghlu, representative from the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and Emin Huseynzade, Communications Manager at the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company. The speakers discussed key aspects of WUF13 and its relevance to Azerbaijan.

Sadig Yusifov highlighted Sheki's development while preserving its historical, cultural, and geographical character. He emphasized Sheki's unique position as a city with over 2,700 years of history, maintaining medieval Eastern urban traditions. Yusifov also mentioned the city's ongoing urban improvement works under the 2030 Development Programme's master plan.

Ramiz Idrisoghlu addressed Azerbaijan's urbanization projects, noting their international interest due to advanced urban planning practices. He announced that Baku would host WUF13 from May 17 to 22, highlighting the country's achievements in urban development.

Emin Huseynzade encouraged youth participation in WUF13, detailing the festival's significance for Azerbaijan and activities appealing to young audiences. The WUF13 Festival will feature an open-air public programme starting at 18:00, engaging attendees with interactive activities, educational games, presentations, and discussions on sustainable urban development and innovative urban solutions.
