Baku: The World Urban Forum's thirteenth session, WUF13, is set to make history as it brings together nearly 30,000 participants for the first time in the Caspian and South Caucasus region. The event will attract around 10,000 international participants, including numerous heads of state and government, as reported by Eldar Rasulov, Media Relations Manager of the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operating Company, to APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the forum will feature 40 main sessions and 350 partner events, distinguishing it from previous gatherings. Simultaneous translation in eight languages, including sign language, will be available for the main events. The WUF13 is recognized as one of the most prestigious international platforms, jointly organized by UN Habitat and the Government of Azerbaijan. Rasulov highlighted that the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operating Company commenced its activities on June 30, 2025, to ensure a high-level organization, focusing on institutional preparation, infrastructure planning, operations management, transportation, marketing, and communication.
Rasulov also emphasized the significant role of volunteers in the forum's success, noting the establishment of a Volunteer Center that received 16,000 applications during the registration period. Out of these, 2,500 volunteers who successfully completed training will assist in various event areas. The Baku Olympic Stadium has been chosen as the venue, adhering to the ISO 20121 standard. The 'Urban Expo' exhibition within the forum will welcome participation from countries, cities, municipalities, regional organizations, UN entities, academic institutions, international financial and civil society organizations, foundations, and private companies.
WUF13 is an inclusive platform with free registration that began in September on the official UN-Habitat website. Rasulov further noted the meticulous attention to transportation, ensuring participants can reach the venue with ease. A Master Plan of Transport Exchange Centers has been devised, identifying 11 transport hubs, and efforts are underway to map routes connecting Heydar Aliyev International Airport, hotels, city centers, and the Baku Olympic Stadium.
