Zakharova: Moscow and Baku in Close Contact Over Attack on Natra and Zircon Ships

Moscow: The Natra and Zircon ships, sailing under the flags of Belize and Palau and heading from Trkiye to the port of Rostov-on-Don, came under attack in the Sea of Azov on the morning of June 5, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. The incident involved both vessels experiencing an attack during their voyage, as reported by APA's Russia bureau.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it was noted that citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan were among those killed and injured on both vessels. The injured sailors received assistance from a Russian vessel and a border unit of the Russian Federal Security Service.

'We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. We wish the injured a speedy recovery,' the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed. Zakharova emphasized that the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation.

She mentioned that available information suggests the ships were attacked by Ukrainian drones. Additionally, the Russian Foreign Ministry official stated that Russia is maintaining close contact with the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Moscow and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 'The Russian side will provide its partners with all necessary assistance in obtaining information about the circumstances of the incident and ensuring consular access for Azerbaijani citizens,' she added.
