Vienna: During the period between 2019 and 2024, Azerbaijan’s law enforcement agencies have identified a total of 47,863 cases involving the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors. This information was shared at the 16th meeting of heads of national authorities for ensuring compliance with drug laws, which took place in Vienna from October 28 to 31.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the authorities reported that during this period, they successfully prevented 33.5 tons of various narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors from entering illegal circulation. Additionally, 39,002 individuals, including 510 foreigners, were held criminally responsible for their involvement in these activities.
Official statistics reveal that in the last two years alone, there have been 10 recorded attempts of drug trafficking from neighboring countries through Azerbaijan. These attempts resulted in the seizure of 600 kilograms of narcotic drugs, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the nation in combating drug-related crimes.
