Police detains sergeant who killed three comrades in Azerbaijan

A person who killed three servicemen of Azerbaijan’s State Border Service on the territory of a separate border unit “Gubadly”, detained, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA.

Noted that on January 2, at about 6 pm, information was received about the killing of three servicemen in the service area of the “Gubadli” special border division of the Border Troops of the State Border Service. The Military Prosecutor’s Office and the State Border Service inspected the scene, as well as other necessary procedural investigative actions. Preliminary investigations revealed that junior sergeant Avazli Elkhan deliberately killed senior lieutenant Yusif Ismayilov, junior ensign Jalilzade Amil and ensign Ibrahimov Rafail, who fled the scene.

As a result of search operations, Elkhan Avazli was found on January 3, 2022 at around 00:30 in Malkhalaf village of Lachin region and detained as a suspect.

The investigation department of the Military Prosecutor’s Office has been instructed to continue the investigation, with the leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office taking the criminal case under special control.

An intensive investigation is underway to determine the details of the incident.

Turkey’s annual inflation hits 36.08 percent, highest since 2002

Turkey’s annual inflation has surged to 36.08 percent year-on-year in December, the highest level since September 2002, the Turkish Statistical Institute revealed on Monday, APA reports.

The country’s consumer prices raised by 13.58 month-on-month in December, according to the data.

The producer price index increased by 19.08 percent on a monthly basis, with an annual rise of 79.89 percent, it said.

World’s oldest living person celebrates 119th birthday

The woman considered to be the world’s oldest living person turned 119, APA reports.

Tanaka Kane was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person in 2019, when she was 116 years old.

Residing at a care facility in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan, Tanaka reportedly communicates with staff through her facial expressions and enjoys solving number puzzles, eating chocolate, and drinking soda.

Born on Jan. 2, 1903 as the seventh of nine siblings and married at the age of 19, she sent her husband and son to the front in the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937.

Tanaka lived through the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, and Heisei eras of the four emperors of post-1867 modern Japanese history.

Before Tanaka, the world’s oldest person was Chiyo Miyako, another Japanese woman who died in July 2018 at the age of 117.

According to the Guinness World Records, the all-time record for longest life is held by French woman Jeanne Louise Calment, who died in 1997 at the age of 122.
