Mustafa Shentop shares post on anniversary of Khojaly genocide

Speaker of Turkish Grand National Assembly Mustafa Shentop shared a post on the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, APA reports.

 

“I remember with mercy the memory of our Azerbaijani brothers and sisters who were martyred in Khojaly 31 years ago. We will never forget this genocide, which is officially recognized as an international crime,” the post reads.

Commemorative event on the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide held in London

A commemorative ceremony was held in London on the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, APA’s Britain bureau reports.

 

The event was organized by Mirkazim Seyidzadeh, head of the Azerbaijan Student Union in Britain, Mehin Babayeva, Azerbaijan Society of Kings College University, and the Karabakh Azerbaijan School in Britain, and it was attended by Elin Suleymanov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the UK, Ali Tekin Atalar, head of Azerbaijan House, Azerbaijani and Turkish students, foreign guests, and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora.

 

A minute of silence was observed at the beginning of the event to commemorate the victims of the Khojaly tragedy. Ambassador Elin Suleymanov spoke about the history of Khojaly and called the Khojaly tragedy the bloodiest chapter in Armenians’ policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide against Azerbaijanis since the beginning of the 20th century. The ambassador stated that he believes the spirits of Khojaly victims and martyrs are relieved that our territories have been liberated from occupation.

 

Ali Tekin Atalar, the head of Azerbaijan House, spoke at the event about his memories and views on Khojaly.

 

He said that the Armenian military forces massacred the civilians of Khojaly city 31 years ago.

 

Students from the Karabakh Azerbaijan School in the UK presented a show about Khojaly at the event.

 

Saadat Farziyeva played national Azerbaijani songs on the piano, and Rasim Farziyev and Tereza Mostallino played the kamancha.

 

At the end of the event, foreign students studying in London also delivered a speech and shared their opinions about Khojaly.

All-Europe Karabakh rally held in Vienna on 31st anniversary of Khojaly genocide

A rally on the 31st anniversary of Khojaly genocide was held in the famous Heldenplatz square of Vienna, the Austrian capital, APA reports citing State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

Over 1,000 Azerbaijanis from 31 countries of the world, community members, representatives of diaspora organizations and peoples having friendly attitude towards our country participated in the rally.

 

The rally started with the National Anthem of Azerbaijan and continued with a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the dear memory of our martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of motherland and the victims of Khojaly genocide.

 

Our compatriots, as well as the foreigners waved the flags of Azerbaijan and the countries they live in, held posters with slogans depicting the recognition of the Khojaly genocide.

 

The participants gave information about Khojaly genocide, drew attention to the fact that the Azerbaijani people had been waiting for 31 years for justice. The speeches were delivered mainly in English, Lithuanian, Serbian, German, Italian, French, Greek, Polish, Hebrew, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Norwegian, Finnish, Spanish, and Turkish languages. The rally participants demanded legal and political assessment of the crime and brining the perpetrators of the crime to account.

 

A documentary film dedicated to the Khojaly genocide, produced with support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation was demonstrated, pieces of classical music dedicated to the memory of the victims of the genocide were played.

 

As part of the rally, booklets and brochures prepared by Heydar Aliyev Foundation were distributed to the city residents to raise awareness about Khojaly genocide.

 

At the end, the statement of the rally was read in English and German languages.

 

It should be noted the participants of the rally gathered monetary aid for the victims of the devastating natural disaster in Türkiye. Gathered amount was transferred to the account of AFAD by the Organizing Committee of the rally.

 

It is almost several years that Azerbaijani communities abroad and diaspora organizations hold mass peaceful campaigns on the occasion of Khojaly genocide to raise awareness. The 1st Pan-European Karabakh rally was held by the Azerbaijani diaspora in Brussels in 2019, the 2nd Pan-European Karabakh rally was held in Berlin in front of the Brandenburg Gate in 2020, and the Pan-American Khojaly rally was held in front of the Capitol building in Washington DC in 2022.

 

The 3rd All-European Karabakh rally was held on the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide in the famous Heldenplatz square in Vienna, the capital of Austria, APA reports.

 

More than 1,000 compatriots, community members, representatives of diaspora organizations and peoples who are friendly to our country took part in the action.

Chair of the Romanian Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies pays an official visit to Azerbaijan

On February 26, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament Ion-Marcel Ciolacu paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports citing the press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis.

 

The guest was welcomed by the Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Adil Aliyev, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Romania, Huseyn Najafov, the Head of the Azerbaijan-Romania Friendship Group, Azay Guliyev, and other officials at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

European Commission President to travel to UK for talks with Sunak

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to travel to London on Monday for a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, APA reports citing Teletrader.

 

In a joint statement on Sunday, Downing Street and the commission said they agreed to continue their work “towards shared, practical solutions for the range of complex challenges around the [Northern Ireland] protocol.”

 

London and Brussels have been engaged in talks to amend the post-Brexit arrangements on Northern Ireland in an effort to avoid a hard border between the constituent country and the Republic of Ireland, which remains part of the bloc.
