2026 European Free Pyramid Championship Kicks Off in Baku

Baku: The official opening ceremony of the 2026 European Free Pyramid Championship was held at the Baku Olympic Sports Complex on July 9. The ceremony began with a cultural performance, followed by opening remarks from officials.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Farid Gayibov, Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports, noted that Azerbaijan is hosting the European Free Pyramid Championship for the second time, highlighting the country's extensive experience in organizing major international sporting events. He emphasized the Azerbaijani government's strong support for the development of sport in the country.

The minister also noted that Azerbaijan has been designated the 2026 World Capital of Sport, adding that the championship will make an important contribution to promoting international cooperation and the development of billiards in the country. Other speakers included Seymur Mammadov, President of the Azerbaijan Billiard Federation, and Sergey Kolcov, President of the European Pyramid Federation and the Latvia Billiard Federation. The championship will conclude on July 12.
