Khankendi: Next month, 900 families are expected to return to Aghdam, Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts, announced at the “III Azerbaijan National Urban Planning Forum” held in Khankendi.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the relocation is part of the Great Return program, with new residents planned to resettle in Aghdam soon. Emin Huseynov emphasized that this marks the next stage in the Great Return process and is significant news for the community.

Huseynov highlighted the infrastructure developments in the district, mentioning that 16 highways, totaling 600 kilometers, and the Baku-Aghdam railway have been reconstructed. Additionally, an international airport has been operationalized within just eight months.

The settlement process in Aghdam has already been completed in three villages, with approximately 4,000 people having returned. Huseynov noted that these individuals have regained their homes and jobs, signifying the restoration of life in the region.

The economically active population in Aghdam stands at 2,200, with the unemployment rate below 8 percent. Initial relocations have occurred in the Red Bazaar, Sus, and Hadrut settlements, and the process is expected to continue throughout the year. The goal is to relocate 1,300-1,500 families to the Khojavend district by year-end, with efforts extending into 2026. All projects are reportedly on schedule, according to Huseynov.
