ACG Initiates Oil Production in Non-Associated Gas Project at Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli Field

Baku:The first production well aimed at tapping oil reserves under the non-associated gas (NAG) project at the Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli (ACG) field has been activated, according to a report by bp on its operations in Azerbaijan over the first nine months of the year.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the ACG project launched NAG production operations in the first half of 2026, marking a milestone as the first commercial gas production activities in the field. The NAG operations began at the NAG Initial Producer (IP) well, drilled in 2025, targeting two priority reservoirs—the Qirmaki Upper Sand and the Qirmaki Lower Sand—situated beneath active oil reservoirs. The well confirmed gas resources in the Qirmaki Upper Sand and encountered high-pressure gas in the Qirmaki Lower Sand.

Current NAG production efforts are concentrated on the Qirmaki Lower Sand reservoir for initial testing of the well and reservoir. Gas and condensate from the well are transported to the Sangachal terminal through the existing ACG infrastructure, integrating oil and gas systems to maximize the use of current offshore facilities.

Additionally, a producer well was drilled into the oil reserves of the NAG reservoirs from the Deepwater Gunashli platform. This well began operations as planned at the end of the third quarter of 2026 and is expected to provide further appraisal data to aid in evaluating future development prospects within the NAG reservoirs.
