Administrative Arrest to Be Imposed for Repeat Gambling Offenders

Baku: Administrative arrest will be imposed for repeated participation in gambling activities, APA reports. This is reflected in the proposed amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses discussed at today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the current law stipulates that participation in gambling activities is punishable by a fine of 3,000 manats. This also involves the confiscation of gambling equipment, as well as money or other property wagered, winnings, prizes, or other income obtained through gambling.

The proposed amendments specify that if the offense is repeated within one year after an administrative penalty has been enforced, the offender will face more severe consequences. In such cases, gambling equipment and any associated money or property will be confiscated, and the individual will either be fined 5,000 manats or subjected to administrative arrest for up to 15 days, considering the circumstances and personality of the offender.

The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
