Administrative Arrest to Be Imposed for Repeated Participation in Gambling

Baku: Administrative arrest will be imposed for repeated participation in gambling activities, APA reports. This development comes as part of a proposed amendment to the Code of Administrative Offenses discussed at a joint meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Legal Policy and State Building and on Labor and Social Policy.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the current law stipulates that participation in gambling activities is punishable by a fine of 3,000 manats. This penalty includes the confiscation of gambling equipment, as well as money or other property wagered in gambling, winnings, prizes, or other income obtained.

The proposed amendment outlines that if the offense is repeated within one year from the date the administrative penalty decision comes into effect, and the offender has been previously penalized for the same offense, further consequences will be enforced. The gambling equipment, along with money or other property involved in gambling, will be confiscated again. Additionally, the offender will face a fine of 5,000 manats or may be subjected to administrative arrest for up to 15 days, contingent on the circumstances of the case and the offender's profile.
