AIIB Commends Azerbaijan’s Infrastructure Developments

Baku: Anar Karimov, Azerbaijan's First Deputy Minister of Finance, has met with a delegation from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) led by Xiaohong Yang, Director General for the Public Sector Clients Department. The meeting reviewed ongoing AIIB-backed projects in Azerbaijan and explored pathways to enhance collaboration across the infrastructure, transport, and energy sectors.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Anar Karimov emphasized that the partnership with the AIIB has contributed significantly to implementing Azerbaijan's sustainable economic development priorities. He noted that the bank has already provided critical financing for key transport, traditional energy, and renewable energy projects across the country.

The First Deputy Minister highlighted the newly developed Multi-Year Investment Portfolio under the strategic cooperation framework between Azerbaijan and the AIIB. He added that this portfolio will enable more systematic, long-term planning of infrastructure investments in strict alignment with the "Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development" strategy.

Xiaohong Yang praised the current state of bilateral cooperation and the successful outcomes of AIIB-funded projects in Azerbaijan. She reaffirmed that the bank is willing to scale up collaboration in sustainable transport infrastructure, railway modernization, urban mobility, port and logistics development, renewable energy, and green finance.

The meeting concluded with detailed discussions on the next phases of the Baku Metro expansion project, the master plan development of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, and future cooperation tracks.
