President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said that the proven potential of renewable energy sources (RES) in the country is 184,000 MW. “In 2022, many significant events took place in the energy sector. In the middle of the year, a memorandum on strategic partnership in the field of energy was signed between Azerbaijan and the EU. It is already running. Azerbaijan is increasing its natural gas exports to world markets,” Aliyev said on December 31 in his New Year’s address.

According to him, on December 17, a new megaproject was launched. “Laying an electric cable along the bottom of the Black Sea will allow Azerbaijan to play its role in this area on a larger scale. Because Azerbaijan will become the main supplier of this electricity and it will be green energy. I have already said several times that Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur should become a green energy zone. We are already achieving this and will achieve it. At the same time, Azerbaijan’s large renewable energy sources are of great importance both for our country and for the whole world,” he said.

Aliyev stressed that the confirmed potential of RES in Azerbaijan is 184,000 MW, of which 157,000 MW is in the potential of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. “This will turn our country into an indispensable partner in the energy sector,” the President of Azerbaijan added
