Ambassador Duncan Norman: UK’s Partnership with Azerbaijan Extends Far Beyond Energy

Baku: The United Kingdom and Azerbaijan have a history of cooperation spanning more than three decades, British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Duncan Norman said at a press conference today, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, these relations began in the energy sector. BP's pioneering investment contributed to shaping Azerbaijan's modern economic history, and the partnership continues to build on that strong foundation today. However, the collaboration extends far beyond energy, encompassing defense, security, trade, education, innovation, and people-to-people ties that have taken deep root on both sides. Azerbaijan is a valued partner, with close ties connecting the two countries and shared views on key challenges and opportunities.

The ambassador emphasized that the UK and Azerbaijan have agreed to elevate their relations to the level of a Strategic Partnership. This step will ensure deeper cooperation in shared priorities such as creating new opportunities for economic growth, strengthening security, and promoting innovation. Both nations are working towards a shared future that delivers benefits for their peoples.

The diplomat also noted that ensuring economic growth is a priority for the UK government. Azerbaijan is deemed an important economic partner, and the UK is supporting a new phase of economic cooperation by building deeper ties in trade, investment, and regional connectivity. This initiative aims to benefit both British and Azerbaijani people, as well as businesses, while creating a stable and prosperous economic environment for future generations.
