Baku: Bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Azerbaijan have seen substantial growth since their inception in 1992. This development stems from strong ties between the leaders of the two nations. Numerous high-level mutual visits have occurred, with particular emphasis on the official visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to Azerbaijan on September 16. During this visit, 14 agreements and Memorandums of Understanding were signed across various sectors, including a significant Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Relations between the UAE and Azerbaijan, according to UAE Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohammed Al Blooshi.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to Abu Dhabi in July further expanded cooperation opportunities between the nations. The first meeting under the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement took place in Abu Dhabi on November 27, marking a major milestone in UAE-Azerbaijan relations. This document underscores the shared aspiration of both countries to develop a resilient, knowledge- and innovation-based economy to meet future development needs.

The ambassador highlighted that approximately 68 agreements and Memorandums of Understanding have been signed, paving the way for major investments in sectors such as energy, sustainability, and artificial intelligence. In 2024, the trade volume between the UAE and Azerbaijan reached about $2.2 billion. The relationship between the two countries is characterized by mutual respect and shared interests, further illustrated by the operation of about 28 weekly direct flights by UAE national carriers and 14 weekly flights by Azerbaijani airlines.

Ambassador Al Blooshi expressed optimism about the future, emphasizing that these developments signal a promising outlook for UAE-Azerbaijan relations.
