Ambassador Reveals Venezuela’s $20 Billion in Frozen Assets

Baku: Venezuela’s foreign exchange earnings have seen a dramatic decrease from $39 billion in 2014 to $743 million in 2020, as stated by Venezuelan Ambassador to Azerbaijan Christopher Martinez Berroteran. He made these remarks during his presentation at the conference titled “Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean Peace Zone,” as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, more than $20 billion of Venezuelan assets are currently frozen in 29 international banks and three multinational organizations. The ambassador highlighted that a document signed by a former US President labeled Venezuela as an extraordinary threat to the United States, leading to severe sanctions against the country. As a result, Venezuela has faced annual losses of $40 billion for seven consecutive years starting in 2015.

Christopher Martinez Berroteran also mentioned incidents involving the US Navy, which allegedly attacked Venezuelan fishing boats in the Caribbean Sea. The fishermen were accused of drug transit, yet no evidence was provided to substantiate these claims.
