Baku: U.S.-Azerbaijan relations are undergoing significant changes and evolution, as highlighted by Eric Rudenshiold, Research Director and Senior Fellow at the Caspian Policy Center. Rudenshiold pointed to the memorandum on the extension of the waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, signed by former President Donald Trump, as a strong indication of the United States' favorable view of Azerbaijan as a partner.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Rudenshiold emphasized that legislative measures such as Section 907 are remnants of historical legislative actions, similar to the Jackson-Vanik Amendment. He expressed optimism that these legislative relics can eventually be undone, although it requires substantial effort to raise awareness among legislators about their historical nature.
Rudenshiold also noted the significance of a large U.S. delegation attending the Baku Energy Week, which underscores the growing interest in U.S.-Azerbaijan economic development. He mentioned that discussions during the event focused on strengthening economic partnerships, reflecting positive developments in bilateral relations.
