An exhibition entitled “Kamil Aliyev: artist and period” opened at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum on October 21.

According to the order of President Ilham Aliyev, the exhibition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of People’s Artist Kamil Aliyev.

Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum Shirin Malikova said that the genius artist has dedicated his life to the survival and development of the bright traditions of carpet weaving. Kamil Aliyev’s unparalleled achievement was his ability to work on the surface of the carpet with the most subtle colors, shades of light and shadow, creating a realistic, as if a living human image. Throughout his career, Kamil Aliyev has created dozens of carpets – a gallery of portraits of famous political and artistic figures of Azerbaijan and other countries. Benefiting from the heritage of classical carpets, the artist is also the author of numerous ornamental compositions. The artist skillfully used the numerous shades of yellow and gold and their harmony in most of his works.

Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Anar Karimov expressed satisfaction with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of People’s Artist Kamil Aliyev in one of the most beautiful museums in the capital. He said that the work of the prominent artist has always been highly valued by the state. He was awarded many state awards, and decrees were signed by the heads of state to mark the 80th anniversary of his life and the 90th anniversary of his death at the state level. It is very gratifying that a few days ago, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order “On the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Kamil Aliyev.” This proves once again that the legacy of the artist is relevant for our art in modern times, “he said.

He said that during his long and very productive creative life, Kamil Aliyev brilliantly revived the images of political and public figures, classical poets and thinkers, well-known cultural figures on the carpet. People’s Artist Kamil Aliyev’s solo exhibitions have been held in prestigious museums and galleries in Paris, London, Tokyo, Delhi, Ankara, Istanbul, Tehran, Moscow, Kiev and other cities. His carpets are kept in world-famous museums and private collections.

Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, academician Rafael Huseynov said: “The value of the people left in the history of the nation is that it is not erased from the memory of the nation. His work is known all over the world. According to Kamil Aliyev, Azerbaijani carpet art must be analyzed in the context of time. It retains this attention as a symbol of carpet weaving. Kamil Aliyev, who was exiled from Yerevan, still experienced the political turmoil of that time. He sought his struggle in the art of carpet weaving. Kamil Aliyev, as a man who endured the severe repressions of the 1930s, has always defended great figures.

R.Huseynov emphasized that Kamil Aliyev actively fought against the attempts of the hated Armenians to name the Azerbaijani carpets after himself and promoted our national carpet-weaving culture in the world.

Chairman of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan, People’s Artist Farhad Khalilov said that Kamil Aliyev began weaving carpets in his childhood and devoted his entire life to this art. Sharing his memories with Kamil Aliyev, F. Khalilov noted that he was a man of subtle humor and defender of the truth.

People’s Artist Eldar Mikayilzadeh stressed in his speech that Kamil Aliyev is a multi-talented carpet artist. He noted that he was engaged in a wide range of activities, from the weaving of tables to the preparation of sketches of jewelry.

Carpet weaver Adiba Musayeva thanked the head of state and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum on behalf of the weavers for the high attention and respect shown to the memory of people such as Latif Karimov and Kamil Aliyev. A.Musayeva, who worked with both personalities, said that she learned the intricacies of carpet weaving thanks to them.

People’s Artist Kamil Aliyev’s daughter Narmina Aliyeva said she was proud of her father’s recognition in the world and thanked him for the attention paid to his memory.

The exhibition features 18 carpets preserved in the collection of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, authored by prominent artist Kamil Aliyev. In addition, 3 carpets from the collection of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, as well as three carpets and 5 sketches from the family archives of the artist are on display.
