BAKU—Bahruz Mammadov, the first deputy chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), met with a delegation led by Jan-Erik Enestam, former Minister of Defense of Finland, to discuss the extensive landmine problem in Azerbaijan. The meeting was organized by the Finland-Azerbaijan Friendship Society and held at the request of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of Azerbaijan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, ANAMA provided the delegation with detailed information on the challenges posed by irregular mining in Azerbaijan, including the contamination of civilian areas and the presence of trap mines. The discussion also covered the large-scale humanitarian demining efforts currently underway to address these threats.
Enestam expressed his admiration for Azerbaijan’s achievements in combating the mine threat and noted that a report based on the information gathered during the visit would be submitted to relevant Finnish institutions. Mammadov emphasized the importance of expanding international partnerships and support to effectively eliminate the landmine issue in Azerbaijan.
