ANAMA Reports Significant Clearance of Landmines and UXOs in Azerbaijan’s Liberated Territories

TARTAR — The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has completed a substantial week-long clearance operation in the country’s recently liberated territories, making significant strides in the removal of hazardous remnants of conflict.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the week of August 19 to August 25, 2024, teams successfully located and neutralized a total of 78 anti-personnel mines, 32 anti-tank mines, and 839 pieces of unexploded military ordnance (UXO) across various regions including Tartar, Aghdam, Aghdara, Lachin, Fuzuli, Shusha, Kalbajar, Khojaly, Khankandi, Gubadli, Khojavand, Jabrayil, and Zangilan. This effort resulted in the clearance of approximately 1,308.3 hectares of land, significantly reducing the risk to local communities and facilitating safer resettlement and reconstruction activities.
