ANAS President Announces Potential Publication of Azerbaijani Orthoepic Dictionary by Year-End

Baku: Work is underway on the preparation of an orthoepic dictionary of the Azerbaijani language, stated Isa Habibbeyli, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), during a conference titled 'The Language of the Media in the Context of Scientific Discussion,' as reported by APA. The dictionary is anticipated to be published by the end of 2026, as the need for revision has been identified.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Isa Habibbeyli emphasized the importance of reconsidering issues related to personal names and the creation of new words within the Azerbaijani language. He highlighted the necessity of finding equivalents for international terms as part of the state's efforts to promote the statehood ideology of independent Azerbaijan. This initiative aims to enrich the Azerbaijani language and demonstrate care for its preservation.

Isa Habibbeyli further noted that expanding national terminology involves both utilizing international terminology and developing Azerbaijani equivalents for foreign terms. He stressed that one of the approaches to enrich the language is through word formation, citing literature as a source of new words. Examples of such words that have entered the Azerbaijani language through literary works include "chimerlik" (beach), "nefeslik" (vent), and "dunyadash" (contemporary).
