ANAS to Review Ramiz Mehdiyev’s Membership After Court Ruling

Baku: The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has announced that it will review the full membership status of Ramiz Mehdiyev following recent legal developments. ANAS President, Isa Habibbayli, expressed deep regret over the unfolding situation involving Mehdiyev in his comments to APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Sabail District Court of Baku has issued a ruling in the criminal case against Ramiz Mehdiyev. The court has granted a motion concerning Mehdiyev, imposing a restraining measure of four months of house arrest. Mehdiyev faces serious charges under Articles 278.1, 274, and 193-1.3.2 of the Criminal Code, which include actions aimed at seizing state power, state treason, and the legalization of property obtained through crime.

Ramiz Mehdiyev has a long-standing career, having served as the Head of the Presidential Administration from 1995 to 2019, and later as the President of ANAS from 2019 to 2022. The legal proceedings and subsequent decisions by ANAS regarding his membership will be closely followed by those observing the developments in Azerbaijan’s scientific and political spheres.
