Barcelona: FC Barcelona officially announced this Wednesday the contract extension of Andreas Christensen for two additional seasons. The Danish centre-back, whose deal was set to expire in 2026, is now tied to the Catalan club until 30 June 2028. The official signing will soon be celebrated during a ceremony at the club's offices, according to One Football.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, At 30 years old, Christensen is preparing to play his fifth season in the blaugrana colours. Having arrived on a free transfer from Chelsea in the summer of 2022, the defender has established himself as an essential part of Barcelona's back line thanks to his tactical intelligence and defensive solidity.
Over his first four seasons at Camp Nou, the Denmark international has played a total of 98 official matches in all competitions. He has also contributed to the club's list of honours, with three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.
Christensen's most recent season was, however, disrupted by a knee injury. The centre-back suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, an injury that kept him off the pitch for 158 days. He made a return on the final matchday of La Liga, at Mestalla.
With this strategic extension, Bar§a's sporting management has ensured it retains the services of an experienced defender recognised at the highest European level. Thanks to his ability to play out from the back and his versatility, Andreas Christensen should continue to play a major role in the club's sporting project in the years ahead.
